Last month, the great and the good amongst manufacturing, process plant and packaging professionals descended on Chicago, Illinois, to attend The Automation Conference. At this year’s event, 230 attendees from 124 companies arrived to learn more about the latest developments to drive efficiency and solve automation challenges across the multimillion dollar industry.
Chris Jones, group sales manager – controls at tna, a leading global supplier of integrated food packaging solutions, was a delegate at the 2013 conference. Here are his thoughts on the event:
“As this was my first visit to The Automation Conference I was unsure of what to expect when I arrived in the so-called “windy” city. I knew from the conference’s promotional material that I would be treated to a range of presentations covering a diverse selection of topics from using mobile and cloud to revolutionise manufacturing to the benefits of integrating quality management systems into process management environments. The presentation sessions didn’t disappoint and provided useful insights into the latest innovations and approaches to leverage automation. They helped spark lively debate amongst the delegates and the presenters too!
What’s more, there were some interesting case studies jointly showcased by end users and integrators / suppliers – these really resonated with the audience who were able to truly understand the benefits of particular technologies in action.
“The conference also provided valuable technical updates and there was much talk and interest in the subjects of data gathering and energy savings – areas which are assuming increased relevance today from both a manufacturer and customer perspective. And, with budgets scrutinised from every angle nowadays there was a strong focus on ROI throughout the event which I found to be particularly beneficial.
“All in all I enjoyed my first Automation Conference experience and took away some interesting and useful information about the current and future state of play for the industry. I look forward to seeing the plans for next year’s event.”
